Women's Swimming and Diving Tops Northeastern 140-103

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women?s swimming and diving team improved their 1999-2000 dual meet record to 3-0 on Thursday afternoon with a 140-103 victory over Northeastern at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr., Pool.

Sophomore Anne Dettloff (Barrington, Ill.) picked up two victories in the meet. Dettloff won the 200-y freestyle event in 156:24, and later won the 500-y free in 5:09.37. Dettloff also swam the anchor leg for the victorious 400-y free relay team that included senior Lyndsay Crenshaw (Escondido, Calif.), senior Marci Hupp (Hilliard, Ohio), and senior Andrea Spencer (Wilmington, Del.). Spencer also picked up a win in the 200-y IM with a 2:11.33. Fellow seniors Elizabeth Risotto (Setauket, N.Y.) and Lia Lansky (Memphis, Tenn.) also picked up wins. Risotto won the 200-y backstroke in 2:06.50, while Lansky posted victory in the 200-y fly in 2:10.02. Junior Sarah Newell (Dillsburg, Pa.), who teamed with Risotto, Spencer and Andrea Kazanjian (Troy, N.Y.) to win the 200-y medley relay (1:51.10), won the 200-y breast in 2:28.41.

Northeastern sophomore Katie Mailman dominated the diving events, winning the one-meter springboard with a score of 232.55, and the three-meter springboard with a score of 269.6. Miriam Seul won two events, timing in at 24.79 in the 50-y free and 53.45 in the 100-y free. Northeastern falls to 1-1 on the year with the loss.

The Minutewomen return to the pool this Saturday at 4:00 p.m. when they host Boston University at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr., Pool.
