Women's Tennis Defeats UConn, 8-1

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women?s tennis team conquered UConn, 8-1, on Saturday, Oct. 9 in Amherst. The Minutewomen improve to 3-1 with the victory, while the Huskies fall to 1-3.
UMass won five out of its six singles matches in the win. Senior Ola Gerasimova (Liatvia Ridge, Russia) was victorious at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 7-5 decision over Trinell Russel. Sophomore Helena Horak (Westlake Village, Calif.) defeated Christine Vorvis in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 2 slot.
Sophomore Annie Hamilton (Plano, Texas), freshman Katie Stammen (North Attleboro, Mass.) and junior Robyn Lebovitz (Marietta, Ga.), all captured wins in their respective singles positions.
The Minutewomen won all three doubles matches, with the tandem of Gerasimova and Hamilton winning 8-4 over Russel and Vorvis at No. 1.
UMass is next in action on Oct. 21, against Boston University at 2 p.m.
