AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women?s tennis team will host the defending Division III national champion Amherst College on Friday, Oct. 8, at 3:30 p.m. at the Upper Boyden Tennis Courts. The Minutewomen are 1-1 in dual matches this season with an 8-1 victory at St. John?s on Sept. 29.
Senior Ola Gerasimova (Liatvia Ridge, Russia) and sophomore Annie Hamilton (Plano, Texas) are both undefeated (2-0) at No. 1 and 3 singles, respectively. The pair are also undefeated (2-0) in the No. 1 doubles slot this season.
UMass lost to Amherst, 5-4, in last year?s battle. Hamilton picked up the lone singles victory in the loss, while all three doubles teams were victorious. The Lady Jeff?s lead the series versus the Minutewomen, 3-0.
"One of the team?s goals this year is to beat Amherst College," head coach Judy Dixon says. "We have had some unbelievable matches against them in the past few years. So we are looking for a tightly contested match. Hopefully, we will get a big push from the crowd."
UMass will next host UConn on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 11:00 a.m., as part of a doubleheader with the men?s team.
