Men Place Tenth At Meet of Champions

BRONX, N.Y. ? The UMass men?s cross country team finished 10th with 291 points at the annual Meet of Champions at Van Cortland Park in New York. Dartmouth won the event with 40 points, claiming four of the top ten individual finishers. Iona finished a close second with 68 pts, followed by Brown in a distant third.
Sophomore Ryan Corbett (Highland, N.Y.) was the first Minuteman to cross the finish line for the second consecutive meet. Corbett finished 36th overall with a time of 26:16.5. Senior Matthew Ely (Andover, Mass) placed 52nd overall as the second UMass finisher in 26:42.1. The Minutemen?s third fastest runner, David Prasse (Walpole, Mass.) finished 76th in 27:17.1. Sophomore Salvatore Nastasi (Merrich, N.Y.) and junior Thomas Stuart (Canandaiqua, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Minutemen, placing 80th and 82nd, respectively.
UMass cross country is off next weekend and will return to action on Friday, Oct. 15 at the New England Championships in Boston.
