UMass Football Runs Past Maine For 38-17 Victory

ORONO, Maine (AP) - Marcel Shipp ran for 256 yards and two touchdowns as the Massachusetts Minutemen beat the Maine Black Bears 38-17 in Atlantic 10 action Saturday.
Shipp ran for touchdowns of 8 and 50 yards in the fourth quarter that sealed the game for Massachusetts (3-3, 3-1). Shipp gained 192 yards in the second half, including a run of 64 yards that set up his eight-yard touchdown run.
Todd Bankhead contributed with a one-yard touchdown run on a fourth down that capped a 76-yard drive at the end of the third, bringing it to 24-17.
Brent Naccara led Maine (2-4, 1-2) scoring with two touchdown runs, including a 34-yarder in the first half that gave the Black Bears a 17-10 lead at halftime. Todd Jagoutz also added a 22-yard field goal in the second that was set up by an interception at the Minutemen 35-yard line.
Bankhead connected with Adrian Zullo for a 36-yard touchdown in the first, giving the Minutemen a 7-0 lead.
The Minutemen defense had two interceptions by Jerard White and Jeremy Robinson in the first quarter and kept the Black Bears scoreless in the second half by forcing six punts.
