    Offensive Coordinator

Alma Mater: Fort Hays State '09; Millikin '06
Season at Massachusetts: First

Max Warner comes to Amherst in February 2026 after most recently coaching at Toledo and Bowling Green as the offensive coordinator.

"I am excited to officially announce the addition of Max Warner as our program's offensive coordinator," head coach Joe Harasymiak said. "Max bolsters our program with his proven track record of productive and innovative offenses, player development and program growth. His experience will be a tremendous asset to the Massachusetts football family. In our conversations, it became clear he aligns with our culture and that he desires to be part of what we are building. His success at multiple levels speaks to the strength of his offensive philosophy and his commitment to team building and we're confident he will help us take the next steps as a program."

Warner was most recently an offensive analyst with Toledo for the 2025 campaign. Prior to Toledo, he was the Co-Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Bowling Green from January 2022 through March of 2025. He was also the play caller for the Falcons.
"I am thrilled be joining the Massachusetts football program and want to thank head coach Joe Harasymiak and athletic director Ryan Bamford for the opportunity," Warner said. "With the energy inside the football program and the resources committed to our student-athletes, this felt like the perfect place for me and my family. The work has already begun and I'm excited to be a part of the culture we are building both on and off the field."

Warner helped lead Bowling Green to three consecutive bowl games, including the 2022 and 2023 Quick Lane Bowls as well as the 2024 68 Ventures Bowl. His teams went 5-3, 5-3 and 6-2 in MAC play, respectively.

Warner's Bowling Green offenses consistently ranked near the top of the league and showed steady year-over-year improvement. In 2022, his offense averaged 334 yards and 23.5 points per game, followed by 336 yards per game and 26.2 points per game in 2023, before taking another step forward in 2024 by posting 377.5 yards per game and 27.1 points per game.

Additional Bowling Green Highlights (2019-24)
With the Falcons, Warner helped develop quarterback Connor Bazelak during the 2024 season, guiding him to one of the most efficient passing campaigns in Bowling Green history. Under Warner's leadership, Bazelak completed 66.9 percent of his passes, the second-best mark in BGSU single-season history, while throwing for 3,044 yards and 18 touchdowns. Bazelak's accuracy ranked first in the MAC and 14th nationally, while his total passing yards led the conference and ranked 26th nationally. Bazelak's passing yards total also ranked ninth on BGSU's all-time single-season list.

Warner's impact extended beyond the quarterback position as the co-offensive coordinator as he helped mold tight end Harold Fannin Jr. into one of the most dominant playmakers in college football. Fannin became the first consensus All-American in Bowling Green history following a record-breaking season in which he led the nation with 117 receptions and 1,555 receiving yards — both FBS records for a tight end at the time. He topped all FBS tight ends in more than 105 statistical categories and was the first tight end in FBS history to lead the nation in both total receptions and receiving yards. Fannin's dominance earned him the Vern Smith Leadership Award as the MAC's top player, as well as MAC Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Warner worked with BGSU quarterback Matt McDonald in 2020-22 and helped McDonald develop into an All-MAC selection. McDonald accumulated 2,669 passing yards and 22 touchdowns under Warner as well as a 61.2 completion percentage his senior year.

Prior to Bowling Green
Warner served as head coach at Bloomingdale High School in Valrico, Florida, from 2016–18, following coaching stops at Virginia Tech, Fort Hays State, North Carolina Wesleyan and Lakeland College.

During his three seasons at Bloomingdale, he guided the program to two state playoff appearances, including a historic 2018 campaign that featured the best start in school history (7–0), an 11–2 final record and the program's first two state playoff victories before falling to top-seeded Venice in the Class 7A regional final.

Warner previously served as an offensive quality control coach at Virginia Tech in 2015 and was the offensive coordinator at Hillsborough High School from 2012–14, where the team posted a 26–7 record.

Warner's additional experience includes roles as passing game coordinator at DeForest High School, running backs coach at Fort Hays State, offensive coordinator for the Carlstad Crusaders in Sweden, wide receivers coach at North Carolina Wesleyan, and defensive backs coach at Lakeland College, where he began his coaching career in 2006.

Warner played at Millikin University and was a three-year letter winner at quarterback. He earned his bachelor's degree from Millikin (2006) and then earned a master's degree from Fort Hays State (2009).

Warner and his wife, Kaitlyn, have three daughters.
