UMass alumnus Ryan Mahan is entering his third year as Director of Hockey Operations with the UMass hockey program in 2020-21. Mahan, a 2018 graduate of the Isenberg School of Management, previously spent two years with Carvel’s staff as a hockey operations assistant.
While working towards his sport management degree, Mahan helped prepare film review, pre-scouting analysis while also tracking in-game statistics for the Minutemen. He also assisted with logistics for player media events, travel coordination and game-day operations.
During the summer of 2016, Mahan served as a hockey operations intern for the Florida Panthers, which included work with the organization’s assistant general managers on NHL CBA compliance and assisting the hockey analytics department in game film review as well as database construction and maintenance.
A member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Mahan was a 2018 Top Senior Award recipient as part of the top 2% of the McCormack Sport Management Class. In addition to his work with the hockey program, Mahan also served as a resident assistant for three years and was a part of UMass’ Learfield Sports Properties staff for two years during his undergraduate career. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in business & analytics.
