Jack Maloney returned to his alma mater as a assistant coach for The University of Massachusetts men's and women's cross-country and track and field teams in 2014-15 and enters his third season with the programs. Maloney boasts over 30 years of experience in developing track athletes to New England, Eastern and NCAA competition levels as well as 24 years of business experience in finance, sales and marketing. Coach Maloney serves an assistant coach as well as a recruiting coordinator with the squads.
Prior to UMass, Maloney started his career as the head coach for the University of New Haven from 1976-1982 before becoming the assistant and eventual head coach at Southern Connecticut State University from 1982-1998. While at SCSU, Maloney oversaw the development of a program that produced 63 Division II NCAA qualifiers, 21 All-Americans, and 44 different school records. For his efforts at SCSU, Maloney was awarded New England Coach of the Year 13 times. Additional responsibilities at SCSU were recruiting for all events, hiring of assistant coaches and was responsible for meet management. Maloney achieved all this while maintaining a full-time job as one of the most successful Credit Insurance Agents for CNA.
After SCSU, Maloney brought his expertise to Fordham University from 2009-2012 where he helped add 13 school records, 11 Atlantic 10 champions, 3 NCAA Regional qualifiers and another IC4A champion to his resume.
Maloney most recently spent the previous two seasons at Fairfield University where he played a significant role in guiding the Stags to their first IC4A University title in 2012, as well as assisted with meet management, and served as the team's recruiting coordinator. The longtime coach also saw the men's program finish fourth, their highest finish to-date, in the 2013 MAAC Championship.
Maloney is a 1970 graduate of Notre Dame High School in West Haven, Conn. and a 1974 Cum Laude Graduate of the University of Massachusetts. In his time as a Minuteman, he captained the 1974 track teams to a New England Championship while becoming a Yankee Conference Champion as well as the indoor school record holder in the 800m run. Maloney was a three-time All-New England performer during his time as a student-athlete.
