Anthony Berardo

Anthony Berardo joined the Massachusetts Athletics Department in March of 2023 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. 


Prior to joining UMass, Berardo served as a Seasonal Certified Athletic Trainer at the United States Naval Academy from July 2022 - March 2023. He provided medical coverage and athletic management for the men’s water polo and men’s gymnastics teams, while also assisting with men’s and women’s rugby, club ice hockey and cross country programs. Berardo provided athletes with injury care and evaluations making return to play protocol specific to each athlete's injuries. He also organized physician appointments for further evaluations with coaching staff and the medical staff. 


Prior to the United States Naval Academy, Berardo served as an Athletic Training Student at Yale University from October 2021 - May 2022 where he worked with the men’s ice hockey and football teams. Berardo initiated injury evaluations and prescribed rehabilitation protocols to athletes based on their injuries. He also administered treatment to athletes to prepare them for their practices and competitions and created nutrition programs for teams.


Prior to Yale University, Berardo served as an Athletic Training Student at the University of Connecticut: Institute for Sport Medicine from June - August 2021 when he observed physician appointments with various sports medicine doctors, primary care, orthopedic surgeons, neurologists and podiatrists. During his time at the Institute for Sport Medicine he learned orthopedic skills related to sports medicine and also created therapeutic exercise programs for patients to return to play. 


From January - May 2021 Berardo was also an Athletic Training Student at the University of Connecticut: Department of Athletics where he assisted with athlete care for the baseball, field hockey, and track & field teams. He covered practices and games, created rehabilitation instructions for athletes and scheduled physician appointments. 


Berardo has also served as a Firefighter & Emergency Medical Technician in New Fairfield Connecticut since 2018, responding to E911 requests for the fire department and medical services. He also provides patients with pre-hospital care for traumatic injuries and medical conditions, and educates the public on the importance of fire safety and proper cardiopulmonary resuscitation knowledge. 


Berardo earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Connecticut before earning a Master of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Connecticut.
