You can listen to UMass Hockey through the flagship family of stations in the Pioneer Valley. UMass Hockey live radio play-by-play can be found on WHMP 101.5 FM, 1240/1400 AM. Broadcasts can also be heard on the Varsity Network (desktop) or the Varsity App (phone). Pregame coverage begins 30 minutes prior to puck drop of each contest with Donnie Moorhouse, Cooper Boardman and Nathan Strauss. Games can be heard the following day On Demand through the Varsity App.

UMass Hockey is televised and streamed online through the Hockey East ESPN+ and NESN package deals. All games will be made available across the U.S. and internationally on ESPN+ (subscription required). Select games will also air on NESN while still available to watch via ESPN+. Games selected on NESN will also be available to view online via the NESN streaming service.
UMass Sports Network Talent
Jay Burnham is entering his fourth season as the Voice of the Minutemen in 2022-23. The Shelburne Falls Massachusetts native is the primary play-by-play broadcaster for Massachusetts football and men’s basketball on both radio and TV. Burnham also broadcasts games on NESN for the Worcester Red Sox and has an extensive resume that includes play-by-play broadcasting for VCU, Virginia Tech, William and Mary, Dartmouth and Longwood. A two-time award winner in the play-by-play field, Burnham’s background includes a variety of stops along the way in Minor League Baseball, including a six-year stint as the voice of the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Burnham is also the host of the UMass Sports Insider TV show on NESN and operates within the Athletics Department on content creation and storytelling.
Adam Frenier has played a role in UMass broadcasts since 2000. He currently serves as the analyst for men's basketball broadcasts and the sideline reporter for for home football, both on the radio. Frenier also fills in as a play-by-play announcer. In the past, he's been a studio producer, rinkside reporter for hockey broadcasts and has done play-by-play for a wide array of other sports including men's and women's lacrosse, baseball, softball soccer and field hockey. Frenier graduated from UMass in 2004 with a B.A. in History. He's also a longtime high school basketball and softball official in western Massachusetts.


Donnie Moorhouse has spent 13 seasons as the play-by-play voice of Minuteman hockey. He has been behind the mic for the most significant games in program history including the historic triple-overtime Hockey East Championship game in 2004, UMass’ first trip to the NCAA tournament in 2007, its Frozen Four in 2019, and the 2021 National Championship.
In 2008, Moorhouse and his wife Katie formed The Hockey Project, a non-profit that brought at-risk kids in urban communities out on the ice with the goal of teaching life skills, promoting academic achievement, and developing character through the game of hockey. During its run, the Hockey Project had a positive impact on hundreds of kids in the Greater Springfield area, earning grants and accolades from the Western Mass Community Foundation, the Boston Bruins Foundation, and the Cheever “Grow Hockey” grant program.
Moorhouse’s family remains immersed in the hockey world with sons Evan (Director of Hockey Operations, Brown University), Sean (Asst. Hockey Coach, Westfield HS), and Ryan (Player, Worcester Jr. Railers) all involved in the game. His daughter, Elizabeth, is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts.

Jim Cain returns to Amherst as a lead play-by-play voice for the A-10 Champion women’s basketball team on NESN. Cain has freelanced for UMass over the last four years and is in his sixth season behind the mic for the PawSox/WooSox. In addition, he calls various sports at schools such as Harvard, Holy Cross, and Northeastern. A native of Wakefield, MA, Jim graduated from Emerson College, where he played baseball, in 2016 with a Broadcast Journalism degree.
Tyler Murray has been a part of the UMass Sports Network since 2019, calling Hockey on NESN and home basketball and football games. Tyler is also the lead play-by-play voice of the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, and broadcasts the Hockey East Game of the Week and Tournament on NESN, as well as Hockey East Championship Weekend on 850 WEEI. Murray is also a Massachusetts native, but somehow a New York Knicks fan.


Pete Brock returns as radio analyst for UMass Football and is a familiar face and name to football fans throughout New England. Brock spent all 12 seasons of his prestigious NFL career with the Patriots (’76-87) and solidified himself as one of the best and most versatile offensive linemen in the game. During his tenure in the NFL, Brock was recognized for his achievements by winning the 1979 Unsung Hero Award, the 1984 Jim Lee Hunt Award for best Patriot Lineman, and the 1985 Ed Block Memorial Courage Award for great sportsmanship and courage. He also helped lead New England to their first ever appearance in the Super Bowl in 1985.
A member of the 2009 New England Patriots All-Decade team for 1980 and a 2018 University of Colorado Hall of Fame inductee for his outstanding collegiate career, Brock provides color commentary for all UMass football games on the radio broadcast. His colorful analysis and storytelling abilities have made him a beloved part of the UMass Football family.
During his broadcasting career, Brock has worked on the New England Patriots radio network as both a color analyst and pre and post-game host. When not broadcasting, he works tirelessly as the founder of the Patriots Alumni Association, an organization that brings football and spread the message of teamwork to those in underserved communities.
Matt Goldstein is a former Kicker for the UMass Football team who finished playing in 2004. Goldstein was the analyst for UMass Football games on the radio for 13 seasons before moving into TV and video where he has done analyst and sideline work for UMass Football and other networks for the last six years. Goldstein has called many different sports over his time working for UMass and other networks and is also the PA Voice of the Mullins Center for Men’s Basketball and Hockey.


Andy Gresh has been a consistent voice on UMass Football television broadcasts for the last half decade. A veteran of the talk sports world, Gresh is currently the host of the popular show Gresh & Keefe 10am-2pm on WEEI. Gresh has also been a college football color analyst for various networks since 2007, and has provided sports commentary and analysis since the early 2000’s for television entities like CSNNE & SNY. Gresh graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of Rhode Island in 1997. He was a 2-year letterman, and starting offensive lineman on the URI football team.
Frank Sullivan brings over three decades of college basketball coaching experience to the UMass Sports Network, including 23 seasons as Head Coach at Harvard and Bentley. Sullivan is a Former Associate Commissioner of the America East Conference working with coaches and game officials in men’s and woman’s basketball. Television broadcast work since 2008 with ESPN, MSG, NESN, Eleven Sports and five seasons as part of UMASS network


Cooper Boardman joins the UMass Minutemen radio network for the 2022 season. During the summer, he works as a broadcaster for the Worcester Red Sox, Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. A 2021 graduate from Syracuse University, Boardman has also worked for the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch and was the voice of the University of Vermont women’s basketball team.
Jim Connelly is a 30-year veteran of college hockey having held positions from equipment manager to color analyst. Since 2013, he has been a part of Hockey East on NESN broadcasts, first serving as an in-studio analyst and most recently moving to a role as color analyst. Additionally, Connelly serves as the executive editor of US College Hockey Online (USCHO.com). He has covered every Frozen Four for USCHO since 2000.

Nathan Strauss returns to UMass as a broadcaster following three years behind the mic as a student. During his time at UMass, where he graduated Cum Laude, he called over 120 games on both TV and radio across a variety of sports. In 2021-22, Nathan served as co-director and lead play-by-play voice for WMUA, leading on-air coverage for UMass Women's Basketball while travelling with the team over the course of the season and calling their Atlantic 10 championship as well as their March Madness appearance. Strauss won the 2022 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System award for "Best Hockey Play-by-Play" for his call of UMass Hockey's game-winning goal against Merrimack. He has previously worked as a Broadcast and Media Relations Assistant for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
