MGM Springfield Partners with Link to Libraries and Springfield Public Schools to Provide Books to Children
SPRINGIELD, MASS. (March 24, 2020) – MGM Springfield is partnering with Link to Libraries and Springfield Public Schools to provide books to children in the community during this challenging time for the public education system. Families with kids in kindergarten through high school may pick up a free selection of books at one of the food distribution locations at Bowles, Chestnut Middle School, Commerce, Dorman, Glickman, Indian Orchard, Kensington, Liberty, Lincoln, Rebecca Johnson, Elias Brookings Elementary, South End, Talmage, Warner and Washington schools in Springfield Tuesday, March 24. The books are packaged separately from the food.
COVID-19 has caused disruptions in the public education system in Springfield leaving many children and families struggling with access to adequate reading materials at home.
“We are proud to partner with Link to Libraries to assist in getting books into the hands of neighborhood kids and families during this difficult time,” said Chris Kelley, President of MGM Springfield.
Link to Libraries is a nonprofit organization located in Hampden, Massachusetts whose mission is to distribute new books to schools and home libraries of children in need. By increasing a child’s access to books, Link to Libraries strives to enhance the language and literacy skills of children of all cultural backgrounds.
MGM Springfield Donates 12,000 Pounds of Food to Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, Friends of the Homeless, Open Pantry and MLK Food Pantry
SPRINGIELD, MASS. (March 16, 2020) – To help alleviate food insecurity in the community as a result of the COVID-19 public health crisis, MGM Springfield is donating 12,000 pounds, equivalent to 10,000 meals, of perishable food including produce and dairy to the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, Friends of the Homeless, Open Pantry and Martin Luther King Jr. Family Services (MLK Food Pantry).
COVID-19 has exacerbated an already challenging issue in the region and MGM Springfield remains committed to the wellbeing of its neighbors and supporting the efforts of Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, Friends of the Homeless, Open Pantry and Martin Luther King Jr. Family Services to ease hunger across Western Massachusetts.
