Champions Center Emergency Plan

Champions Center Athletic Training Room: (413) 545-1760

EMERGENCY PERSONNEL
A coach will be on site for all practices and competitions. A certified athletic trainer will be in attendance at all varsity athletic contests. In-season practices will have a certified athletic trainer in the Boyden athletic training room and making rounds of the practice areas. A certified athletic trainer, located in the Boyden athletic training room, will be available to teams participating in out-of-season practices Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 7 PM. Additional Sports Medicine Staff can be summoned from the Boyden Athletic Training Room (545-0094). A triage nurse and physician are on call for University Health Services "after-hours", seven days a week (413-577-5000). UHS is closed during weekend and evening hours during the summer.

EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION
Additional Sports Medicine Staff or emergency personnel can be contacted in the Boyden Athletic Training Room (413) 545-4458. The Mullins athletic training room telephone number is (413) 545-1760.

EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT
Emergency Equipment (Trauma kit, AED) will be brought on site for all competitions and practices. Additional equipment will be available from Boyden Athletic Training Room.

ROLES FOR FIRST RESPONDERS
**In the event an athletic trainer is not present, the coach becomes the lead first responder, assessing the situation and activating EMS, as necessary.
1) Athletic Trainer: Assess and care for injured or ill student athlete(s).
2) Coach/Sports Medicine Assistant: Retrieve emergency equipment.
3) Athletic Trainer: Activate EMS:
a) Sports Medicine Assistant CALL (413) 545-2121. Provide name, address, telephone number, number and condition of injured, first aid care, and specific directions.
i) Use of campus telephones will contact University Police, who will dispatch Amherst Emergency Services
ii) Use of a cellular telephone will connect with the State Police Emergency System. The dispatcher will contact Amherst Emergency Services.

(1) State the town where emergency services are needed (Amherst).
(2) Provide name, address, telephone number, number and condition of injured, first aid care, and specific directions.
4) Coaching staff: Assist EMS to injury scene:
a) Designate individual to greet EMS and direct to scene.
i) Open appropriate gates or doors.
b) Scene control: limit scene to first aid providers and move bystanders away from area.

VENUE DIRECTIONS
The Champions Center is located on Mullins Way just south of the Mullins Center. Access is through the ground level on the side of the building facing the Mullins parking lot. You will enter the door closest to the Mullins Center.
