AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations Nick Joos was elected to the College Sports Information Director's Board of Directors during the organization's annual convention earlier this month in Cleveland.

Beginning his fourth year on the Massachusetts staff and his 17th in athletic administration, Joos will serve a two-year term on the Board as an at-large representative from the University division. An active member of CoSIDA, he is starting his third year as a member of the Academic All-American committee. Joos oversees all public relations activities and information services for the UMass athletic department and leads a staff which includes assistant director Charles Bare, media relations assistants Seth Gerard and Chris Forman, and secretary Ruthie Drew.

During the 2002-03 academic year, the UMass media relations office received three CoSIDA "Citations of Excellence" for its work in publications. The Minuteman football media guide, written and designed by Bare, finished fifth nationally among Division I-AA institutions, marking the third consecutive year the book has been honored nationally. In addition, the women's tennis media guide and the men's swimming and diving guides, both written by media relations assistant Mary Motzko, finished second in the district competition.
