Markopoulos And Arnold Named Co-Athletes Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts junior pitcher Kelli Arnold (Kalama, Wash.) and senior Kate Markopoulos (Porter Corner, N.Y.) of the women's track and field team were named the Dinn Brothers/UMass co-Athletes of the Week. Markopoulos won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the A-10 Outdoor Championship, while Arnold went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA last week.
Markopoulos was the A-10 Champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her time of 11:06.30. It was her fourth consecutive first-place finish in the event. Markopoulos also finished fourth in the 1,500-meter with a clocking of 4:44.84.
Arnold picked up three conference wins last week and is now 16-5 on the season with a team-low 1.87 ERA. She did not allow an earned run in 13.3 innings and yielded just two walks and three hits while striking out 10. In a 1-0 shutout over Fordham Saturday, Arnold allowed just one hit and retired the final 18 batters of the game in a row. She then entered the second game in relief and held the Rams to just a hit and one unearned run in 2.2 innings. She also pitched four scoreless innings for the Minutewomen in a win over Rhode Island. Since beginning the season 0-2, Arnold has won 16 of her last 19 decisions. She has posted a 1.00 ERA in that stretch.
