Schedule Set for 'May Day' Festivities
A mini-FanZone will be part of the festivities on May 8, along with the Spring Football game, a baseball doubleheader and a men's lacrosse contest. |

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Athletics Marketing Department has announced the schedule for its first annual "May Day" festivities to be held on May 8, 2004.
In conjunction with an array of UMass Athletics home events, Athletics Marketing will host a spring bar-b-que and Mini-Minuteman FanZone geared toward children 5-12. As part of the FanZone and the BBQ, there will also be an opportunity to interact with UMass athletes and coaches from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m., behind the Mullins Center near the tennis courts. An event for the whole family, there will also be an opportunity to meet Sam the Minuteman, get autographs and enter to win round-trip tickets on US Airways along with other great prizes.
Additionally, the annual spring football game will be held at 11:00 a.m., at McGuirk Stadium, while prior to the baseball doubleheader against Temple, UMass will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its first appearance in the College World Series. Members from the 1954 squad will be honored prior to the first pitch of the second game. At Garber Field, the men's lacrosse team will take on ECAC rival Rutgers in its regular season finale beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The Spring Football game, both baseball games and the Mini-Minuteman FanZone are all free, while the cost for the all-you-can-eat BBQ is $8 for adults and $5 for kids. The men's lacrosse game is $5, while children under 18 are $3 game.
