Three UMass Athletes Recognized As NSCA All-American Athletes

AMHERST, Mass. - Senior football player Kole Ayi (Nashua, N.H.), field hockey player Patty Robinson (Norwood, Mass.) and track & field competitor Mellissa Ward (Franklinville, N.Y.) were selected by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as All-American Athletes for 2001. UMass strength and conditioning coaches Bob Otrando and Anthony Catterton nominated the athletes for their dedication to strength training and conditioning.

The 2001 All-American Strength and Conditioning Athletes are recognized for their athletic accomplishments, academic and personal achievements, community involvements and leadership qualities. This year, 173 athletes from 74 colleges and universities from across the country, in 26 competitive sport categories, were acknowledged for their enthusiasm and hard work.

The NSCA All-American athlete of the year award program is in its 18th year and is made possible by a grant from Power Systems, Inc., a Knoxville, Tenn. fitness product leader.
