Amherst, Mass. -- Three University of Massachusetts student-athletes have been selected by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as 2002 All-American Athletes, the organization announced today.
Senior men's basketball player Shannon Crooks (Boston, Mass.), senior fullback Pete Cariello (Yorktown, N.Y.) and junior women's soccer standout Martha Conover (Liverpool, N.Y.) were honored by the NSCA. All three were nominated by UMass assistant strength and conditioning coach Anthony Catterton for their dedication to strength training and conditioning.
The 2002 All-American Strength and Conditioning Athletes were recognized for their athletic accomplishments, academic and personal achievements, community involvement and leadership qualities. This year, 184 athletes from 84 colleges and universities from across the country in 19 competitive sport categories were acknowledged for their passion and hard work in and out of the weight room.
The NSCA All-American athlete of the year award program is in its 19th year and is made possible by a grant from Power Systems, Inc., a Knoxville, Tenn., fitness product leader. A complete list of 2002 All-American athletes is available on the NSCA website at www.nsca-lift.org.
