AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts freshman water polo player Kelly Chassy (Morgan Hill, Calif.) and men's gymnastics senior Jeff LaVallee (Stafford Springs, CT) were named UMass/WHMP Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 5.

Chassy scored 10 goals in three games at the New England Invitational, held on the campus of Brown University, on Saturday, March 4. UMass defeated Brown (16-5), No.19 Harvard (12-5) and Queens College (14-5). Chassy scored five goals versus Brown, three versus Harvard, and two versus Queens. UMass is now 5-1 overall on the season.

LaVallee captured five out of six individual events, including the all-around title, this past Saturday at the 2000 New England Championships held on the campus of the University of Vermont. LaVallee won the pommel horse (9.95 - a new meet record and a career high), still rings (9.65), vault (9.60), parallel bars (9.95 - new career high), and the all-around (57.80).
