BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University of Massachusetts women's swimming & diving team captured its first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship title this afternoon after the last day of the three day competition.

Junior Becky Hunnewell (Sandwich, Mass.) captured two individual titles within 25 minutes of each other with a winning and school-record time of 2:03.61 in the 200 back and a winning time of 52.91 in the 100 free. The victories helped earn her Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet honors. "In September we set the goal of winning A-10s, so it feels awesome to win the title and especially the first in school-history," said Hunnewell. "Its an unbelievable feeling to win as a team and its the best thing that has happened in my athletic career."

The 400 free relay team of Hunnewell, sophomore Molly Buckley (Taunton, Mass.), junior Andrea Kazanjian (Troy, N.Y.) and junior Anne Dettloff (Barrington, Ill.) won the event with a time of 3:32.89.

Freshman Christen Dexter (Centerville, Mass.) placed second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:22.45.

"This was an amazing experience and it happened to a team that deserves it," said head coach Bob Newcomb. "Everyone swam at their best in all three days with all 16 swimmers earning points and the divers delivering with key performances."

UMass earned 848 points with St. Bonaventure placing second with 661 points.

Senior Billy Brown (Fullerton, Calif.) won the 200 breast with a NCAA qualifying, A-10 and school-record time of 1:58.66. This is Brown's fourth career A-10 individual title and it helped him earn the Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet. Senior Chris Arsenault (Peabody, Mass.) won his sixth A-10 title with a winning time of 45.09 in the 100 free. Freshman Conner Townsend (Memphis, Tenn.) won his first-ever A-10 title with a win in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.42.

The 400 free relay team of Arsenault, senior Mike Sabina (Avon, Mass.), sophomore Chad Arnold (Mohnton, Pa.) and junior Ryan Fisher (Santa Barbara, Calif.) won the event with a time of 3:03.26.
