Matt Vautour of the Daily Hampshire Gazette has a story focusing on the NFL Pro Day performances and experiences of UMass football standouts Jean Sifrin, Daniel Maynes and Stanley Andre.
Mark Chiarelli of the Daily Collegian has a recap of the UMass Football Pro Day that was held at McGuirk Stadium yesterday. Nearly two dozen players were on hand to perform in front of over 20 NFL scouts. Jean Sifrin was the top player on hand as he improved on the marks he set at the recent NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
The football team fell 41-21 last Friday against Buffalo in the season finale for the Minutemen. Despite a 3-9 record, the Minutemen won three of their last six games to end the year. The last two losses of the season came without starting quarterback Blake Frohnapfel who was in the midst of producing one of the best seasons in program history. Despite the tough way to end the year, many media members feel the upcoming season will be big for UMass.

With the Minutemen playing the best football of their careers, the duo each are enjoying the way the program is progressing under head coach Mark Whipple.

Andrew Cyr of the Daily Collegian takes a look at how dual-threat Reginald Bell, Jr., poses a threat for the UMass defense and what the keys are to contain the quarterback after he had a break out game against Buffalo last week.

Mark Chiarelli of the Daily Collegian looks at how fifth-year senior linebacker Stanley Andre's leadership will be key in helping the Minutemen transition into new defensive coordinator Tom Masella's 3-4 scheme.

"He's great, he's been absolutely terrific," Masella said of his 6-foot-2, 240 pound linebacker. "He's a calming influence and a voice of reason with our kids on the team that puts them in a comfortable position. And at the same time, he's a very good football player, he's a smart football player who really works at it."

Dan Malone of the Springfield Republican continues his countdown of the top 25 UMass football players to watch for the 2014 season. At No. 6 on the list is inside linebacker Stanley Andre who is one of the key veteran leaders of the team. Malone says Andre must keep that consistency in 2014 while the defense will need to make more plays in general around the line of scrimmage.

Mark Chiarelli of the Daily Collegian has a story focusing on UMass' change to a 3-4 defense under new defensive coordinator Tom Masella. Jovan Santos-Knox and Stanley Andre agree with Masella that this year's group will be aggressive and will utilize multiple formations within the 3-4.

Several local media outlets along with the UMass Sports Network covered Wednesday's MAC Media Day at Ford Field in Detroit. Here's a look at some of the story lines that came from interviews with Mark Whipple, Stanley Andre and Tajae Sharpe as they represented the Minutemen.

Dan Malone of the Springfield Republican has a story featuring UMass football's selections to the Phil Steele preseason All-MAC squad with Trey Dudley-Giles, Randall Jette, Stanley Andre and Tajae Sharpe all receiving recognition.

Nick Canelas of the Daily Collegian has a story on new defensive coordinator Tom Masella and his 3-4 defensive scheme. Senior linebacker Stanley Andre says the move is good because it gives more freedom to the linebackers and defensive backs to be aggressive.

Nick Canelas of the Daily Collegian has a story today on how the UMass football team is responding to new head coach Mark Whipple during Spring Camp. Canelas writes that a new attitude as a result of a fresh start is helping to change the culture of the program.

Lots of coverage from the first week of preseason training camp. The Minutemen held their first two-a-day session on Saturday with a scrimmage during the afternoon practice.
The team had Sunday off with the exception of meetings in the afternoon and evening. UMass will hold another two-a-day on Monday as the work week begins again.
Harry Plumer of the Springfield Republican has a feature on Stanley Andre who is having a standout camp as a defensive end. Andre was asked to switch from his natural linebacker position to defensive end and has made the transition seamlessly.
