Erika Leigh of the Springfield Republican caught up Gary Forbes as he settled in to his new surroundings with the Springfield Armour of the NBA D League. Here's some of what the former UMass star had to say.
SPRINGFIELD - Returning to Western Massachusetts is a homecoming of sorts for former UMass basketball standout Gary Forbes.
The 28-year-old will be joining the Springfield Armor, the NBA development league (D-League) affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, for their fifth season.
Forbes was waived by the Nets after signing in September and joined the Armor as one of two affiliate players for d-League training camp.
"It almost feels like home, even though it's not," Forbes said at Armor Media Day on Wednesday. "I'm just happy to be a part of a team and excited to play basketball."
Forbes might be excited to return to a city just a short ride from his alma mater, but don't be deceived. Like every D-League player, the center is motivated to play in the NBA.
