Wilbur and Michelle Borkhuis were honored at halftime of a UMass men's basketball game against Maine and took part in the customary pouring of champagne over the boats bearing their names. Both women were instrumental in building up the school's rowing program during their time in Amherst.
Wilbur is a 1995 Massachusetts graduate with a double degree in communications and sociology and received a graduate degree in labor studies from UMass in 1997. She was a part of the 1997 UMass women's eight that placed a historic second at the inaugural NCAA Rowing Championships. That year she also earned national all-academic honors from USRowing.
Wilbur went on to become a seven-time United States National Team member from 1997 to 2003 and a 10-time U.S. national champion. She competed for the United States at seven World Championships, bringing home a gold medal in 2003 in the women's four, a silver medal in 1998 and a bronze in 1999.
Currently in her second season as an assistant for the Radcliffe heavyweight program, Wilbur is a former assistant coach at Boston College and has worked with the USRowing Under 23 Development Camp in Boston.
