Barrett Earns MAC Offensive Player of the Week Honors

AMHERST, Mass. – Emily Barrett of the UMass field hockey team was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday following a strong seven-point performance (three goals, one assist) across a 2-0 weekend for the Minutewomen. Barrett becomes UMass' second straight MAC Offensive Player of the Week to begin the season, after Niamh McKenzie won the honor last week.
Barrett a hand in four of the Minutewomen's eight goals for the week. She Scored twice in a 5-1 win over defending Patriot League Champion Boston University, her fourth-career multi-goal game and second in as many years against BU. Barrett's goals on Friday came in the span of 4:06 in the first quarter to give UMass a quick 4-0 lead. On Sunday against UMass Lowell, she finished off a centering feed 33 seconds into the third quarter for a 2-0 Minutewomen lead, which proved to be the difference in a 3-1 win. She also assisted on UMass' third goal. On the season, Barrett is second on the team with nine points via four goals and two assists.
Barrett was named a UMass Student-Athlete of the Week earlier on Tuesday as well.
The Minutewomen, now ranked 12th in the NFHCA Poll, travel to No. 3 Harvard on Friday for a big showdown against the Crimson. Gametime is set for 3:30 p.m.
