Salanger And Coyle Collect Atlantic 10 Weekly Awards

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse sophomore goalkeeper Owen Salanger and freshman attack Colin Coyle have been recognized by the Atlantic 10 with weekly awards following a pair of wins over Brown and No. 20 UAlbany last week, the conference announced on Monday. Salanger earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition, while Coyle was tabbed the league's Rookie of the Week.

Salanger backstopped the Gorillas to wins over RV Brown on the road and No. 20 UAlbany at home last week, posting a .702 save percentage with 40 saves across two games and a 8.5 goals-against average. The Liverpool, New York native grabbed five ground balls and had a caused turnover, as well. In Wednesday's 11-8 win at Brown, Salanger made a career high 23 saves and posted a .742 save percentage, the highest saves total by a UMass netminder in more than 25 years. He followed up on Saturday with a 17-save effort with three ground balls and a caused turnover in a convincing 15-9 win over UAlbany.

Coyle tied for the team lead in points with four goals and three assists for seven points last week.  He also contributed three ground balls. The Westfield, New Jersey native had a goal and an assist in the 11-8 win over the Bears to go along with two ground balls. He followed up with five points (3g, 2a) on four shots for a .750 shooting percentage against the Great Danes.
