Van Herwijnen and Eisenga Earn MAC Weekly Honors as Minutewomen Remain Undefeated

September 16, 2025 | Field Hockey

AMHERST, Mass. -- Massachusetts field hockey players Neva Eisenga and Myrte van Herwijnen each took home MAC weekly award honors, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. The honors mark the third of the season for van Herwijnen and second for Eisenga.

Senior goalkeeper Myrte van Herwijnen earned her third consecutive weekly award after anchoring the Minutewomen to a 2-1 (3-1) penalty shootout win over no. 4 Boston College. Van Herwijnen recorded eight saves in the contest, including five in the fourth quarter and overtime. The Huizen, The Netherlands native stopped three penalty shootout attempts for the second time in three games, proving to be a dominant force with the game on the line.

Junior Neva Eisenga once again made her presence felt on both ends of the pitch, recording two assists while helping the Massachusetts defense in a pair of strong performances against Boston College and Dartmouth. Eisenga assisted Emily Barrett's opening goal against BC, as the Minutewomen allowed just one goal en route to their shootout victory. The Rotterdam, The Netherlands native also assisted the equalizer in Massachusetts 3-2 come from behind win over ivy league foe Dartmouth.

The Minutewomen return to Amherst, facing Kent State for their MAC opener on Friday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and can be followed live on umassathletics.com or UMassFH on Twitter.
