Van Herwijnen Earns Second Consecutive Weekly Award Following Strong Weekend In Net

AMHERST, Mass. -- Massachusetts field hockey player Myrte van Herwijnen claimed both MAC Goalkeeper and UMass Student Athlete of The Week, the organizations announced Tuesday afternoon. The honor marks her second of the season after leading the defensive effort for the Minutewomen in a pair of wins over Brown and Boston University.

Senior Goalkeeper Myrte van Herwijnen combined for 18 saves over a pair of wins for the Minutewomen. The Huizen, The Netherlands native made a season-high 11 saves while dispatching a trio of shootout attempts to lift Massachusetts to a thrilling 3-2 (3-1) win over Brown. Van Herwijnen followed up her performance with her third clean sheet of the season, recording seven saves in a dominant 4-0 shutout win over Boston University.

The Minutewomen return to the road, challenging regional rival Boston College on Friday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex. The game will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra and can be followed live on umassathletics.com or UMassFH on Twitter.
