AMHERST, Mass. -- MACtion begins Tuesday night for Massachusetts football, as the Minutemen take on Akron on November 4 at 7 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. 
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Tuesday's game will mark the sixth all-time meeting between Akron and UMass, with the Zips holding a 3-2 series edge (UMass is 1-1 all-time at Akron). 
  • On defense, UMass forced three turnovers in the game on two interceptions and a fumble recovery. 
  • Massachusetts gained 433 yards of total offense, an average of 5.8 per play (220 rushing yards and 213 passing yards). 
  • Curtis finished 17-of-31 with 173 passing yards while he ran the ball 10 times for 69 yards. 
  • In that most recent meeting, Massachusetts quarterback Michael Curtis threw for two touchdowns and ran for another while cornerback Isaiah Rodgers returned an interception for a score. 
  • The teams previously met in 2012 (UMass win at Akron, 22-14), 2013 (Akron win at UMass, 14-13), 2014 (Akron win at home, 30-6) 2015 (Akron win at UMass, 17-13) and 2019 (UMass win at home, 37-29).  

BRANDON BREAKS AWAY
  • Redshirt freshman running back Brandon Hood rushed for a career-high 179 yards in the narrow loss to Buffalo, including a career-long rush of 90 yards, which also went for a touchdown.  
  • Hood is a Colorado transfer from McDonough, Georgia and his brother, Colton, is a defensive back at Tennessee. 
  • All told, Hood carried the ball 28 times for a 7.5 yards per carry mark and had a pair of catches for an additional eight yards.   
  • The 90 yard-rush marked the fourth longest rush in program history.  
  • The 179 yards were the most by a Minuteman since Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams had 234 in a win at Army on Oct. 28, 2023. 

MARTIN MAKING HIS MARK
  • Against Bryant, linebacker Tyler Martin had a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown, marking Martin's first career interception and first career touchdown.  
  • Against Buffalo, he increased his career-high tackles total to 12. 
  • Martin made a then career-high 10 tackles against Western Michigan (Oct. 4) and he recovered his first career fumble on a force from Hinspeter in the first quarter.  
  • In that game against Bryant, the Acton, Massachusetts native Martin also set a then career-high mark with nine tackles (five solo), besting his previous career-high of six set at Georgia on Nov. 23, 2024 and last week against Temple on Aug. 30, 2025.   
  • It was the first UMass interception returned for a touchdown since Dashaun Jerkins versus Miami (OH) on Sept. 9, 2023.  

QUICK OUTS
  • Marques White is averaging 0.63 sacks per game to rank fifth in the MAC and 43rd nationally (his five total sacks are also tied for 43rd nationally). 
  • Against Bryant, Derek Morris' 53-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter marked the longest field goal in program history, surpassing Sandro Vitiello (vs. Boston College, 1978) and Denis Gagnon (vs. New Hampshire, 1971) who both kicked a 52-yard field goals. 
  • Martin (a pick six) and DD Snyder II each had an interception against Bryant, marking the first two interception game by the Minutemen since Oct. 28, 2023, when UMass downed Army 21-14 (Juan Lua and Jeremiah McGill had the interceptions on that day). 
  • Tyler Martin has moved into the top-10 in the MAC in tackles per game, as he is up to 8.1 to rank seventh in the MAC.  
  • Derrieon Craig, who also missed the Central Michigan game with an injury, is averaging 8.3 tackles per game to rank in the top-10 in the MAC at sixth (42nd nationally). 
  • Timmy Hinspeter, who has missed the last 1.5 games with an injury, is averaging 9.9 tackles per game to rank third in the MAC and 10th in the nation. 
  • Gibson's 59.7 receiving yards per game ranks sixth in the MAC, while his 6.00 catches per game ranks third (17th nationally).  
  • Despite battling injuries, Jacquon Gibson's 358 receiving yards ranks 11th in the MAC (missed two full games and portions of two others). 
  • Keegan Andrews' 46.80 yards per punt ranks second in the MAC and 12th nationally. 
  • The Minutemen rank fifth in the MAC and 44th overall in fewest penalty yards (375). 
  • UMass' eight turnovers lost in eight games this season ranks third in the MAC (38th nationally). 
  • Massachusetts has lost only one fumble this season, which leads the MAC with Bowling Green and is tied for fourth nationally. 
  • Daniel finished the game with a career-high 13 tackles (previous high was 10, which he did on five occasions). 
  • At Central Michigan, junior safety Zeraun Daniel recorded his first career forced fumble while playing in his 27th career game. 
  • His three tackles for loss at Central Michigan on Oct. 25 was the most by a Minuteman since Louce Julien had three TFLs against Wagner on Oct. 26, 2024. 
  • A McNeese State and Dartmouth transfer, White also has 10 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and two quarterback hurries this season.
