Swimming & Diving Adds Holder As Assistant Coach

Hueston Holder will serve as the assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts swimming and diving announced the addition of Hueston Holder to the staff as an assistant coach on Thursday afternoon. Holder will serve as the assistant coach for both the men's and women's swim and dive team alongside head coach Sean Clark of the men's team and Maiya Otsuka of the women's team.

Holder comes to Amherst after serving as the head coach of the Ashland University swimming and diving team for two seasons. While with the Eagles, he helped the program see its first national qualifiers since the 2016 season, while being named the 2024-25 Men's Swim and Dive Coach of the Year. He also  trained, mentored and supervised the staff to ensure program growth, athlete development and operational excellence.

From 2017-19, Holder was the head coach of the Lake Catholic High School and the Great Lakes Sailfish Swimming team. There, he directed the operations one of the Northeast Ohio's fast-growing swim teams, overseeing recruitment, scheduling and training. He designed training programs for swimmers from ages seven to 22, ranging from beginner to collegiate level.

In addition to head coaching positions, Holder was an accounting analyst at Nestle, streamlining monthly reports and improving the accuracy of the budget for two years.

Holder also served active duty  in the United States Coast Guard for four years and is currently and active reserve member since 2018 as a Public Affairs Specialist. He helps manage one of the U.S. Coast Guard's top three social media platforms, growing global reach to 25,000-plus viewers, as well as maintaining up-to-date information as Webmaster. Holder produced the U.S. Coast Guard's Aviation Centennial video, which was featured service-wide and in the Smithsonian Institution.

A member of the Ashland swim & dive team, he was an NCAA Division II All-American as a senior in the men's 200 medley relay. Holder remains part of the program-record men's 200 medley distance relay team, and 200 and 400 free relay quartets.

Holder earned his bachelor's degree from Ashland in 2014.
