The Minutemen came out victorious in the event, while the Minutewomen finished second.
HAMILTON, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team wrapped up its time at the Justin Jennings Invitational, hosted by Colgate, at Lineberry Natatorium on Saturday.
The Minutemen came out on top with a total of 1,119 points, followed by Colgate (773.5) in second in Le Moyne (694.5) in third.
The Minutewomen totaled 877 points in the two-day event to sit in second behind Colgate (1,054.5). The women's team sat ahead of Le Moyne (473) and Saint Francis (400.5) in third and fourth, respectively.
Women's Swimming & Diving
Junior Beren Cakiroglu kicked off day two with a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.34. Sophomore Karinne Everly (54.24), sophomore Courtney Tedesco (54.70) and junior Diya Ackerman-Vallala (55.72) took fourth, sixth and eighth, respectively, in the event. Junior Olga Stoura finished fourth in the 200 backstroke with a. time od 2:13.91.
In the 200 breaststroke, sophomore Maria Griashaeva grabbed the gold with a time of 2:23.92 with junior Lindsay Burbage collecting the bronze with a time of 2:24.87. Freshman Flora Klimesch sat in third in the 500 freestyle after swimming a time of 5:15.15, followed by senior Lexi Alexen in sixth with a time of 5:22.36.
Sophomores Courtney Tedesco (58.80) and Hannah Schoenauer (58.81) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 100 butterfly. Burbage swam into eighth with a time of 1:01.37 in the event.
Grishaeva finished the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.94 to place fourth, while Everly recorded a time of 2:12.27 to place fifth.
In the relays, the 400 freestyle relay team of Cakiroglu, Burbage, Everly and Tedesco, grabbed the silver with a combined time of 3:34.53. The 400 freestyle relay team consisting of Klimesch, Stoura, Schoenauer and Ackerman-Vallala earned the bronze medal with a time of 3:40.89.
Men's Swimming & Diving
Senior Sammy Quigg started off the individual events for the men with a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.04. Freshman Macek Vandermolen followed in third with a time of 47.41 in the event, as sophomore Liam Rayson completed the event in seventh with a time of 47.86.
Freshmen Liam Hickey (1:55.80) and Chase Dai (1:57.36) finished the 200 backstroke in first and third, respectively. Fellow classmates Eli Panachyda (2:10.31) and Hudson Bawduniak (2:13.62) picked up the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke. Freshman Bode Groh took fourth with a time of 2:14.49 and junior Jude Boukarroum swam into fifth with a time of 2:15.55 in the event.
In the 500 freestyle, freshman Miles Smyczek placed second with a time of 4:52.60, while fellow classmate Sota Kawahata finished third with a time of 4:53.45. Bawduniak collected the gold medal in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.18 and Rayson claimed the bronze with a time of 51.99. Four Minutemen in junior Cole Brooks (52.24), sophomore Chase Keeler (52.55), Quigg (52.68) and Hickey (53.06) sat in fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
Dai and sophomore Nate Derby earned the top two spots on the podium in the 200 individual medley. Dai recorded a time of 1:57.42, while Derby swam a time of 1:57.99. Junior Aydin Erkan placed fourth in the event with a time of 1:59.53.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Vandermolen, Rayson, senior Aidan Shepston and Quigg sat atop the podium with a combined time of 3:08.13
On The Boards
The Minutewomen swept the podium in the three-meter dive, as sophomore Khrystyna Yaremyn (256.05) sat in first, sophomore Danielle Guerin (237.55) finished second and fellow classmate Sahana Narayanan (220.55) earned third=place.
For the Minutemen, freshman Carson Harrington claimed the top spot with a score of 314.20, followed by sophomore Alex Kreidler in second with a six-dive total of 286.45.
Next Up
The Massachusetts men's and women's swimming and diving team will take a week out of the pool, before heading to New Haven, Connecticut, to face Yale for a scrimmage on Saturday, October 25, at 11 a.m.

The Minutewomen sit in second with a score of 464, following behind Colgate (553.5). The women's team sits ahead of Le Moyne (249) and Saint Francis (189.5) in third and fourth, respectively.
The Minutemen lead with 558 points, so far, over Colgate (393) and Le Moyne (351) in second and third, respectively.
Women's Swimming & Diving
Freshman Flora Klimesch began the individual events with a first-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle (17:17.86), while junior Olga Stoura took fifth in the event with a time of 18:46.24.
Sophomore Maria Grishaeva grabbed the gold medal in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:35.38, with junior Diya Ackerman-Vallala collecting the bronze with a time of 4:40.32. Junior Ece Yildirim placed sixth after swimming a time of 4:51.74 in the event.
The 200 freestyle saw junior Beren Cakiroglu claim the top spot with a time of 1:54.03. Sophomore Hannah Schoenauer placed fifth (1:59.42) and senior Lexi Alexen earned 10th (2:02.73).
Sophomore Courtney Tedesco placed fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:00.00), while junior Lindsay Burbage sat atop the podium in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.67. Cakiroglu (1:07.61) and Grishaeva (1:08.15) took fifth and ninth, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke.
Klimesch (2:10.17) and Schoenauer (2:12.02) placed second and third, respectively, in the 200 butterfly. Tedesco grabbed the silver in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.62, followed by sophomore Karinne Everly (25.00) in fifth and Burbage (25.24) in sixth.
The 400 medley relay team of Grishaeva, Burbage, Everly and Tedesco combined for a time of 3:53.64 to take second in the event.
Men's Swimming & Diving
Freshman Miles Smyczek earned his first gold medal in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 16:46.44, followed closely behind by junior Jude Boukarroum in second with a time of 16:56.67.
The Minutemen swept the podium in the 400 individual medley, as sophomore Chase Keeler (4:13.39), junior Aydin Erkan (4:14.73) and freshman Chase Dai (4:17.51) placed first, second and third, respectively.
In the 200 freestyle, sophomore Daniel Strumidlo placed third with a time of 1:45.59, followed by freshmen Sota Kawahata (1:46.23) and Macek Vandermolen (1:46.36) in fourth and fifth. Freshman Liam Hickey claimed the gold in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.80, while sophomore Zach Szabo collected the silver with a time of 52.51. Senior Sammy Quigg (52.84) and junior Cole Brooks (53.31) also took fifth and sixth in the 100 backstroke.
The 100 breaststroke saw freshman Hudson Bawduniak (56.49) and Nate Derby (58.74) take second and third, respectively. Freshman Bode Groh (59.03) also took fourth, while Dai (59.22) earned fifth in the event. Sophomore Liam Rayson (1:58.11) and Smyczek (2:01.43) finished the 200 butterfly in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Quigg sat atop the podium in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.09, as junior Aidan Shepston took second with a time of 21.41 in the event.
The 400 medley relay team of Szabo, Derby, Bawduniak, Quigg combined for a time of 3:25.61 to take first-place, while the team consisting of Hickey, Groh, Rayson and Vandermolen swam a time of 3:28.32 to finish in third.

In the one-meter dive, sophomores Danielle Guerin and Khrystyna Yaremyn took first and second, respectively. Guerin totaled 247.80, while Yaremyn had a six-dive total of 245.03.
For the Minutemen, sophomore Alex Kreidler placed first in the three-meter dive with a score of 335.18, followed by freshman Carson Harrington in second with a total of 310.88.
