The event will take place December 11-14 in San Diego, Calif.
NEW YORK – Major League Soccer today announced graduate forward Alec Hughes will be one of the 44 invitees for the 2024 Adidas MLS College Showcase, which will take place from December 11-14 in San Diego, Calif. The four-day talent evaluation event will give technical staffs from each MLS club an opportunity to scout top collegiate prospects in the nation ahead of MLS SuperDraft 2025, which will take place on Friday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. ET. Please note that the list of attendees is subject to change prior to the event.
Coming off his graduate season, Hughes has racked up the accolades after leading the Atlantic 10 and ranking third in the nation in goals (16) and helping UMass get to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. Hughes was first team All-Conference and named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year for the third season in a row; becoming the only player to win the award in three consecutive seasons. He also is the only Atlantic 10 player to win both Rookie of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year in their career, and the only 3x Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year.
Hughes was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Preseason Top 100 list. The Glastonbury, Connecticut native came in at six and was the highest ranked player from the Atlantic 10. Hughes also earned Preseason All-Conference and United Soccer Coaches Player to Watch accolades as well.
After a stellar senior year, Hughes carved his name into the record books. His 16 goals this season made him the new program leader in goals scored at UMass, totaling 51 to pass Hall of Famer Jeff Deren in addition to tying Deren and Adam Black for the third-most goals scored in a single season. He also ranked sixth in single season points with 33.
Hughes is hoping to become the third Minuteman to play in the MLS behind Yosuke Yanya ('22) and Mike Butler ('97) and the first to have his name called on draft day during the MLS SuperDraft on December 20th.
