Minutewomen Secure First Undefeated Conference Record Since 2013, Defeating Davidson 4-0

AMHERST, MASS. -- No. 15 Massachusetts (14-4, 7-0 A-10) dominated possession, securing a 4-0 shutout victory over Davidson (7-8, 3-4) on Friday at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex. With the win, Massachusetts secured its first undefeated conference record since 2013. 
 
The Minutewomen held the Wildcats without a shot on the after, recording their eighth shutout of the season and fourth against an A-10 opponent. Massachusetts has now won 11 straight games at home, dating back to Oct. 6, 2023.  
 
Dempsey Campbell was the lone player recognized on Senior Day, she was honored in a pre-game ceremony surrounded by her friends and family. Campbell scored her sixth goal of the season in the third quarter, increasing her career total to 20 over 77 games played. 
 
Graduate Student Claire Danahy continued to be catalyst offensively recording a goal and an assist on the afternoon. The Chelmsford, Massachusetts native ranks sixth in the A-10 with a team-high 25 points on the season. 
 
Graduate Student Paula Lorenzini also tallied a goal on the day, her sixth of the season. Lorenzini leads the team with 53 shots on the season, continuing to be a threat in penalty corner situations. 
 
Davidson was led by Goalkeeper Mary Kate Berg who tallied 11 saves on the day. 
  
Breaking Down The Action 
  • The Minutewomen spent much of the first 15 minutes in their offensive third, drawing three penalty corners, but were unable to score going into the second quarter tied at 0-0.
  • Davidson earned the first card of the afternoon, as Hannah Merritt received a green card with 10:36 remaining in the second quarter.
  • The Minutewomen drew three penalty corners within a minute of play late in the second quarter but could not convert, keeping the score 0-0 with 41 seconds remaining in regulation.
  • Claire Danahy got the Minutewomen on the board, securing a deflection off a UMass corner and firing it into the bottom left corner of the Wildcat net to make it 1-0 with 29 seconds remaining in the first half.
  • Massachusetts went into the halftime break holding the lead an overwhelming advantage in total shots (18-0) and penalty corners drawn (13-0).
  • Paula Lorenzini struck early in the second half, converting a penalty corner to give UMass a 2-0 lead just 1:49 into the third quarter.
  • Massachusetts got on the board yet again as Dempsey Campbell secured a penalty corner goal, scoring on her senior day and giving the Minutewomen a 3-0 lead with 8:39 left in the third.
  • Elani Sherwood capped the shutout effort, finishing a Danahy assist in deep in the center of the shooting circle to tally her eighth goal of the season and secure a 4-0 Massachusetts win.
