Minutemen Fall to No. 21 Tigers 45-3

AMHERST, Mass. – No. 21 Missouri posted a 45-3 victory over Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon at McGuirk Alumni Stadium (16,102). 

Missouri, who became the first SEC opponent to visit McGuirk Alumni Stadium, opened the game with three unanswered scoring drives to take a 21-0 lead early in the first half. Massachusetts got on the board with a 28-yard field goal conversion in the second quarter. The Tigers matched with a field goal of their own to enter halftime up 24-3, capitalizing on an interception thrown near the Tigers' end zone as the Minutemen looked to narrow the gap before the half following a successful fake punt.

Missouri scored three consecutive touchdowns in the third quarter, en route to the 45-3 victory. 

Jakobie Keeney-James led the UMass receivers with six receptions for 80 yards. CJ Hester had 33 yards on nine carries. 

Quarterback Taisun Phommachanh was 12-for-22 on passing for 132 yards. Phommachanh also carried the ball eight times, with a longest gain of 15 yards. 

On defense, Gerrel Johnson recorded a team-leading nine tackles with three solo and six assisted. Jalen Stewart followed with seven total tackles. Shambre Jackson had one sack.

Notes 

  • Keeney-James had six receptions for 80 yards and now has 29 catches and 542 yards on the season.

  • Te'Rai Powell recorded a career-high 39-yard carry off a fake punt play late in the second quarter.

  • Ahmad Haston made his season debut in the fourth quarter, completing 3-3 passes for 10 yards in addition to two carries for seven yards on the ground.
