UMass Closes Out Regular Season With Senior Day Win Over St. Bonaventure

RJ Luis and Rahsool Diggins each finished with 14 points in a 71-60 win for the Minutemen.

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 71-60 win over St. Bonaventure on Senior Day Saturday in the Mullins Center. The win marked the first for the Minutemen (15-15 Overall, 6-12 Atlantic 10) over the Bonnies (14-17 Overall, 8-10 Atlantic 10) since Feb. 11, 2015.
 
St. Bonaventure put together its largest scoring run of the afternoon early, using an 8-0 spurt to take an 8-2 lead just under three minutes into action. The Bonnies connected on three of their first five shots from 3-point range and took a 13-6 lead on a Daryl Banks III triple with 13:20 to go in the first.
 
UMass followed with a 14-0 scoring run to take a 20-13 advantage while holding St. Bonaventure without a field goal for nearly eight minutes. Rahsool Diggins capped off the run with six consecutive points, ending it with a 3-pointer with 6:44 remaining in the half. Diggins finished with a tied for team-high 14 points and went 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
 
The Minutemen forced the Bonnies into 13 first half turnovers to help them take a 27-20 lead into the break while allowing the least points in an opening half this season. St. Bonaventure finished the afternoon with 20 turnovers while UMass turned it into 17 points on the other end.
 
The Bonnies used a 7-0 run to open the second half and tied things up at 29-29 with 17:48 to play. St. Bonaventure was held without a field goal for over five minutes of game time midway through the second half while UMass went five-plus minutes without a field goal before a T.J. Weeks Jr. 3-pointer stretched the UMass lead to six at 62-56 with 2:59 to play. Weeks finished with nine points and five boards.
 
UMass finished with a 10-rebound advantage over St. Bonaventure and secured 19 offensive rebounds on the day. RJ Luis led all players with nine rebounds and added 14 points to mark the 12th double-digit scoring performance for the freshman in his 14 league appearances.
 
Wildens Leveque scored the opening four points for UMass on senior day and finished in double figures with 11 on 4-of-6 from the field to go along with eight boards. Isaac Kante added eight points and five rebounds while Dyondre Dominguez chipped in six points off the bench.
 
The Minutemen will begin Atlantic 10 Tournament play on Tuesday with final seeded for championship week to be announced this evening.
