AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team tips off the 2023-24 regular season campaign on Monday against Saint Peter's in the Mullins Center. The opener is set to begin at 6 p.m. on NESN+ and ESPN+.

The Opener
UMass begins the 2023-24 regular season campaign in the Mullins Center against Saint Peter's. The Minutewomen and Peacocks matchup up last December in Amherst with UMass coming away with an 81-34 victory. UMass holds a 5-1 all-time advantage with the first matchup being held on Dec. of 1994.

Taking Over The Helm
Mike Leflar was announced as the 12th head coach in UMass women's basketball history in April following five years as an assistant and associate head coach in Amherst. Leflar joined the UMass staff for the 2018-19 season and was promoted to associate head coach in December of 2021. Leflar spent three seasons at Northeastern prior to arriving in Amherst and also spent time as an assistant at Binghamton, Boston University, and Penn.

Reigning Champs
UMass secured a share of the A-10 Regular Season Championship in 2022-23 on its way to earning the no. 1-seed for the first time in program history for the conference postseason. The Minutewomen finished the regular season with a 24-5 overall mark and a 14-2 record in league play.

Roster Overhaul
The Minutewomen returned three players from last year's squad in Lilly Ferguson, Kristin Williams, and Stefanie Kulesza while 10 new players joined the roster in the offseason. The newcomers consist of six transfers and four freshmen. Kulesza led the three returners in minutes a season ago at 12.6 per contest and shot 44-percent from the field.

Team Captains
Graduate students Tori Hyduke and Bre Bellamy were named the 2023-24 team captains earlier in the week. Hyduke spent the last three years at Drexel after a freshman season at George Washington and has appeared in 97 collegiate games. Bellamy played four seasons at William & Mary, starting in 86 games with 100 appearances.

Foreign Tour
UMass spent nine days in Croatia from Aug. 11-19 for a two-city foreign tour that featured three exhibition matchups in Split and Dubrovnik.

NESN Connection
The Minutewomen play 12 games on NESN or NESN+ this season beginning with Monday's opener on NESN+. All 13 home games will additionally be streamed on ESPN+ as part of the Atlantic 10 Conference's streaming deal.

Team IMPACT Signing
Team IMPACT member Harper Carpenter signed with the team in an early October signing day in the Champions Center. Carpenter, a six-year old from Easthampton, Mass., will participate in multiple activities with the team, including games, practices, and other team events.

South of the Border
UMass will play three games from Nov. 23-25 in Riviera Maya, Mexico as part of the 2023 Cancun Challenge. The Minutewomen begin MTE play with Green Bay on Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m. and follow with Washington State the next day at 11 a.m. UMass concludes the tournament with a matchup no. 14-ranked Maryland on Nov. 25 at 11 a.m.

Looking Ahead
Monday's opener marks the first of three games in seven days for the Minutewomen. UMass heads to Boston for a Thursday matchup at Northeastern at 7 p.m. before a Sunday afternoon contest at Maine. The Minutewomen return to the Mullins Center on Thursday, Nov. 16 to battle Harvard at 6 p.m.
