Men’s Hoops Hosts Rival Rhode Island Saturday For Legacy Game

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's basketball team hosts its first of three Legacy Games tomorrow afternoon when they welcome in rival Rhode Island to the Mullins Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. between the Minutemen and Rams.
Legacy Game
Saturday's game marks the first of three Legacy Games for the Minutemen. UMass will wear its iconic cursive U uniform tomorrow and will host Legacy Games on Feb. 4 against Davidson and on March 4 against St. Bonaventure.
Bench Boost
The Minutemen rank sixth in the country and lead the Atlantic 10 in bench points per game at 33.2 after posting 38 in Wednesday's game against La Salle. RJ Luis and Dyondre Dominguez lead the bench scoring with 9.0 points per game each.
Crashing The Boards
UMass ranks 31st nationally and third in the Atlantic 10 in offensive rebounds per game at 12.9 per contest. Matt Cross leads the team in rebounds with 6.3 per game as part of five Minutemen who average 4.0 or more rebounds per game.
On Point
Both Dyondre Dominguez and Isaac Kante rank within the top-seven in the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage. Dominguez sits sixth in the league with a 60-percent mark from the field while Kante is seventh at just under 60-percent. T.J. Weeks Jr. has converted on 43-percent of his shots from 3-point range to rank eighth among A-10 leaders.
Settling In
Freshman RJ Luis is averaging 12.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in A-10 play and has reach double figures in all four league games. Luis earned his first A-10 Rookie of the Week award on Monday after averaging 12.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game over two contests.
Welcome Back Wildens
Wildens Leveque made his return to the court on Wednesday after missing the previous three contests. Leveque posted 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting and five rebounds in his first game back since playing limited minutes in a win over Dartmouth on Dec. 20.
Kante Among Active Leaders
Isaac Kante ranks 31st among active DI leaders in career rebounds with 790 and holds the 35th most career double-doubles with 21. Kante also holds a .583 field goal percentage for his collegiate career to rank 37th-best among active leaders.
Approaching 300
Head coach Frank Martin is two wins away from reaching 300 for his collegiate career and holds a 298-207 (.590) mark in 16 seasons. Martin won 171 games in 10 seasons at South Carolina and picked up 117 wins in five seasons at Kansas State.
Looking Ahead
The Minutemen will play their next two games away from home beginning with a Tuesday night matchup at VCU before heading to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon.
