Massachusetts Falls In Season Opener At Tulane

Campiotti rushes for 58 yards, including a four-yard touchdown.

NEW ORLEANS – University of Massachusetts football redshirt junior Gino Campiotti scored his first touchdown as a Minuteman in the second quarter, but UMass fell 42-10 to Tulane University at Yulman Stadium on Saturday night.
 
In addition to the touchdown, Cameron Carson converted a 21-yard field goal at the eight second mark of the second quarter.
 
Campiotti was two for six for 12 yards and ran for 58 yards on 17 carries, including the lone four-yard touchdown. Tim Baldwin Jr., led the team in rushing yards with 65 on 13 carries. Jalen Mackie was the leading tackler with nine for the Minutemen.
 
For the Green Wave, Michael Pratt completed 12 of 20 passes for 164 yards on the night. Tyjae Spears rushed for 57 yards with 12 carries and three touchdowns on the night. Lawrence Keys III made four catches for 27 yards and a touchdown of his own.
 
Tulane opened the scoring at 8:37 of the first quarter, as Spears rushed for six yards. With the score knotted up at seven apiece in the second quarter, the Green Wave broke the tie to reclaim the lead. Spears had a one-yard rush into the endzone at the 8:31 mark to make it 14-7, before he helped extend the lead once more with another rush for four yards at 5:59 to make it a 21-7 contest.  
 
The Green Wave put up 21 more points in the third quarter.
 
The Minutemen return to action on Saturday, September 10, to take on Toledo in Toledo, Ohio at the Glass Bowl. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
