Fordham, Gottwals Named UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's soccer defender Matt Fordham and field hockey forward Steph Gottwals were named the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week presented by UMassFive on Tuesday afternoon. The duo will be recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday.
Fordham (Groton, Mass.) scored a goal and added an assist as the Minutemen picked up home draws against UMass Lowell and No. 25-ranked Duquesne last week. The defender assisted on the first goal for the Minutemen in a 3-3 draw on Tuesday against UMass Lowell and added his first collegiate goal in the 56th-minute. Fordham also helped UMass to a clean sheet against top-25 ranked Duquesne on Saturday.
Gottwals (Columbia, Md.) scored the game-winning goals in contests against Boston University and Davidson. The senior's game-winning goal against Davidson occurred in overtime to give UMass a 2-1 victory. Against the Terriers on Monday, Gottwals scored the game-winning goal just over 37 minutes in to give the Minutewomen a 2-1 lead in an eventual 3-1 win.
