Massachusetts Basketball Signs Four-Star Tafara Gapare

The 6-foot-10 four-star forward from Wellington, New Zealand will reclassify and join the Minutemen for the 2022-23 season.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's basketball team and head coach Frank Martin announced the signing of four-star forward Tafara Gapare on Wednesday. Gapare is ranked as the top player in Connecticut and No. 10 power forward nationally in the class of 2023 by 247Sports and will reclassify to join the Minutemen for the 2022-23 campaign.
"Recruiting high-level players to UMass is something that I've been excited about from the day I got hired," said Martin. "Tafara adds that to the class that is already in place. He is a 6-foot-10, skilled forward that has a chance to be an unbelievable player both offensively and defensively. He has only been in the United States for six months so he is somewhat unknown, but UMass fans will know who he is as soon as he takes the court for us."
The 6-foot-10 Wellington, New Zealand native transitioned to the United States, where he starred for South Kent School in Kent, Conn. and earned a top-50 national ranking from 247Sports. Gapare is rated as a four-star forward by Rivals and ranks 18th nationally for power forward recruits in the most recent rankings for the class of 2023.
Season ticket deposits are being accepted for the 2022-23 season from new season ticket holders. Fans who place deposits for will be contacted to select their seat location prior to the general public season ticket on sale date. Deposits are just $50 per-seat and are applied as a credit towards the total cost of 2022-23 UMass men's basketball season tickets. Season ticket holders can add additional season tickets and/or change their seating location by contacting the UMass Athletics Ticket Office. Season ticket holders are also encouraged to submit their seat update request in the additional comments box of their online renewal or by calling 1-866-UMASS-TIX. Seat add-on and upgrade requests will be considered based on Minutemen Club donor level as well as priority point total.
