Matt Knote and Cole Hebble receive the accolade after impressive performances last weekend.
AMHERST, Mass. – Junior goalie Matt Knote of men's lacrosse and graduate student Cole Hebble of baseball have been named the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by UMassFive.
Knote made a season-high 20 saves in a 11-10 overtime comeback victory over Delaware in the teams' CAA opener, helping UMass improve to 5-0 at home this season. He made 11 of his saves in the second half and one in overtime, allowing just one goal after the halftime break.
Hebble earned a .700 batting average, a .750 on base percentage and a 1.100 slugging percentage across four games played, as UMass went 2-2 on the week, including 2-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The graduate student recorded 14 hits, 10 RBI, nine runs, five doubles and one home run in 20 at bats, as well. In game one against Saint Joseph's, he registered a season-high seven RBI on three doubles and one long ball, while totaling four runs on five hits, reaching a season best 11 total bases. Hebble contributed five hits and three runs in game three against Saint Joseph's. The Miami, Florida, native, drove in one RBI apiece and had one double in both game two and three versus Saint Joseph's. On the field, the shortstop added nine putouts, including a season-high four in game two against Saint Joseph's, tallied eight assists, including three at UAlbany, and had no errors on the week.
