UMass’ Morrow & Ufko Earn All-Rookie Honors, Trivigno Crowned Hockey East Scoring Champion

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey freshmen defensemen Scott Morrow and Ryan Ufko have been named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, while senior Bobby Trivigno was crowned the Hockey East Scoring Champion for 2021-22, the league announced on Wednesday. As a team, the Minutemen have also garnered the Charlie Holt Sportsmanship Award for a second consecutive season.
Morrow, who was a unanimous selection to the All-Rookie Team, was the top scoring rookie and led all defensemen in Hockey East play with 23 points over 24 games. He tied for seventh with 11 goals and tied for sixth in points per-game (9.583), first among rookies and first among defensemen in both categories. The Darien, Connecticut native currently has 31 points in 33 games to sit tied for fourth nationally among defensemen, third in goals with 13, and tied for sixth in points per-game (.9394) ranking second among rookie defensemen in all three categories. To go along with his 13 goals, Morrow has 18 assists and is currently +9, registering three power-play goals and three game winners.
Ufko led Hockey East in league play with 19 assists in 24 games and tied for sixth in scoring in league action with 22 points as he also netted three goals. The February Hockey East Rookie of the Month has put up 26 points over 33 games on five goals and 21 assists to sit third nationally among rookie defensemen in assists and fifth among rookie defensemen in points. The Smithtown, New York native has three power-play goals and one shorthanded goal with a +3 rating on the year.
Trivigno paced all league scorers in Hockey East with an average of 1.33 points per game, nearly .20 higher than his closest competitor, putting up a league-best 32 points over 24 contests on 14 goals and 18 assists. He totaled 14 goals and 18 assists in league action to rank second in both categories. Overall on the year, the Setauket, New York native currently sits sixth in the nation in points per-game (1.30) and tied for eighth in points with 43 on 17 goals and 26 assists over 33 games and is a team-best +22.
Trivigno is the third Minuteman to earn the title of Hockey East Scoring Champion, joining Mitchell Chaffee (31 points, 1.35 points per-game) in 2018-19 and 2008-09 co-champion James Marcou (35 points), who shared the honor with Boston University's Colin Wilson.
Established in 1992, the Charles E. Holt Sportsmanship Award, named after the former University of New Hampshire head coach, is given to the team which receives the lowest average penalty minutes per-game over the course of regular season Hockey East play. The Minutemen have earned the award for the second straight year – and fourth time in program history – with an average of 7.58 penalty minutes per-game during conference action in 2021-22. UMass previously received the distinction in 2020-21 (9.5 PIM/gm), 2001-02 (11.8 PIM/gm) and 2006-07 (10.8 PIM/gm).
UMass will be back in action this Saturday, March 12, when the squad will host a Hockey East Quarterfinals matchup at the Mullins Center at 7 p.m.
