Swimming And Diving Sets New Relay Record And Wins 800 Free Relay On Day Two

The Minutewomen set a new program-record in the 200 Medley Relay while the Minutemen won the 800 Free Relay to close out the day two.
BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team picked up a win in the men's 800 Free Relay and set a new program record in the women's 200 Medley Relay on day two of competition at the Terrier Invitational on Saturday.

200 Medley Relay Record
Megan Mitchell, Maggie Desmond, Summer Pierce, and Caroline Mahoney combined for a time of 1:41.99 in the 200 Medley Relay to set a new program record time in the opening event of Saturday's finals.

Finishing Strong
The Massachusetts men wrapped up day two of action at the Terrier Invitational with a win in the 800 Free Relay. Emerson Kiefer, Eric Eastham, Wilson Dubois, and Juan Montori posted a swim of 6:42.73 to take the gold in the final race of the night.

Four In The Top Eight
The Minutemen placed four swimmers in the top eight finishers of the 200 Free, led by Eric Eastham's runner-up swim of 1:40.38. Emerson Kiefer finished in fifth with a time of 1:41.38 while Joe Tonna and Juan Montori took seventh and eighth, respectively.

Maggie Desmond posted a third-place finish in the 100 Back with a time of 1:03.91 to rank fifth fastest in program history. Andrew Bell finished in fourth on the 1-Meter board for the Minutemen with a score of 310.25 in the finals. Noah Witt added a third-place finish for the Minutemen in the 100 Back with a time of 49.79.

Megan Mitchell led three Minutewomen in the top-10 of the 100 Back with a time of 55.18 to finish in fifth while Caroline Mahoney took eighth with Bri Williams in 10th. Summer Pierce clocked in a time of 55.97 in the 100 Fly to finish seventh with Ashley Calderon taking eighth with a time of 56.02. Beatriz Olivieri added a top-10 finish for the Minutewomen in the 200 Free with a time of 1:54.35 to take ninth. Emma Petrovich led the Minutewomen divers in the 1-Meter Dive with a score of 254.35 to take fourth.

Jamie Macdonald finished sixth in the 400 IM with a time of 3:59.43 while Sam Haddad finished right behind in seventh with a swim of 3:59.96. Jack Artis added another sixth-place finish for the Minutemen as he clocked in a time of 56.18 in the 100 Breast. Grant Beebe led UMass in the 100 Fly with the fourth-fastest time of 49.59 in prelims before finishing eighth in the finals at 50.02. Tommy Cotner added a fourth-place finish in the 1-Meter Dive with a score of 280.90 while Andrew Bell finished in fifth in the 3-Meter Dive.

The Minutemen are fourth in the team standings after two days of competition with 620.5 points while the Minutewomen are in fifth with 497.
