UMass Defeated At Home By Towson, 67-55

Matt Cross and Isaac Kante each finished with 13 points off the bench for the Minutemen.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's basketball team fell to Towson on Thursday evening in the Mullins Center, 67-55. Matt Cross and Isaac Kante each scored 13 points off the bench for the Minutemen (1-1 Overall).
Cross scored all 13 of his points in the first half of his UMass debut, knocking down his first 3-point attempt before adding five more points in a two-minute span moments later. Cross finished his night 5-of-9 from the field and 2-of-3 from range.
There were eight lead changes in the first 11 minutes of play as the Minutemen bounced back from down seven early. Cross' 3-pointer sparked an 8-0 UMass run that saw the Minutemen regain the lead at 22-20 with 9:20 remaining in the half.
Towson followed with a run of their own, a 12-0 run capped off by a pair of free throws by Nicholas Timberlake. Timberlake finished the night with a game-high 27 points on 10-of-14 from the field. Cameron Holden added a double-double for the Tigers with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
The Minutemen trailed by as many as 19 with just over 15 minutes left and eventually trimmed the deficit down to 10 points around the four-minute mark. Towson answered with a pair of buckets at the rim to go back up by 14 with just three minutes remaining.
Defensively, UMass forced Towson into 11 turnovers in the second half and 17 on the night. The Tigers shot 8-of-18 in the second half and over 53-percent for the game while the Minutemen shot just under 35-percent from the field.
Wildens Leveque added eight points and seven rebounds for the Minutemen with Brandon Martin chipping in seven boards of his own for the second consecutive game.
The Minutemen return to the hardwood on Thursday, Nov. 17 against Colorado as part of three games at the Myrtle Beach Invitational. Tip-off against Colorado is set for 1:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
