Begliardi Ghidini, Groff Named UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

The pair will be recognized at the weekly luncheon on Wednesday afternoon.
AMHERST, Mass. – Filippo Beglardi Ghidini from men's soccer and Karina Groff from women's soccer were named the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week presented by UMassFive College Credit Union on Tuesday morning.

Begliardi Ghidini (Ravenna, Italy) scored two goals last week on his way to being named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The graduate student headed home his first goal last Tuesday at UMass Lowell, a game-winner in the 103rd-minute of a 2-1 double overtime win over the River Hawks. The forward closed out his week with the first goal of the evening and team-leading fifth of the year in the ninth-minute of a 2-1 win at Saint Joseph's.

Groff (Orlando, Fla.) put home a pair of goals to help the Minutewomen extend their unbeaten streak to nine matches last week. The freshman found the back of the net on a long shot attempt in the 20th-minute of a 2-0 win over George Mason in the Atlantic 10 home opener on Thursday for her first of the week. Groff closed out the week with a goal in the third minute of a 1-1 draw against Rhode Island and put five of her six shot attempts on goal during the week.
