The Minutewomen suffered their first loss of the season on Friday and now sit at 4-1 on the season.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – No. 21-ranked University of Massachusetts field hockey suffered its first loss of the 2021 campaign on Friday as the squad was edged 1-0 by No. 7 Maryland with the Terps' lone goal coming in the 20th minute. The Minutewomen now sit at 4-1 on the year, while Maryland improves to 3-1.
Riley Donnelly put home the lone tally of the day at the 19:21 mark with a deflection from the near post as Margot Lawn earned the assist.
The Terps finished with a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal and led in corners 9-6. UMass goalkeeper Marlise van Tonder totaled eight saves for the Minutewomen on the day.
UMass will return to action on Sunday, September, 12, when the squad will take on American at 11:30 a.m. in College Park, Maryland.
