Massachusetts Athletics Announces Change In Softball Leadership

A national search for the program’s next head coach is currently underway

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford announced Thursday, June 3 that Kristi Stefanoni will not return as the head coach of the softball program in 2021-22.
 
"I want to thank Kristi for her time as a UMass student-athlete, assistant coach and head coach for the last 19 years combined," Bamford said. "She cares deeply for UMass softball and worked hard to lead our heralded program after the passing of legendary mentor Elaine Sortino. We wish Kristi well in her future endeavors."  
 
Stefanoni recently completed her 15th season on the UMass softball staff, and eighth as head coach. In her eight seasons at the helm, Stefanoni recorded an overall record of 167-158-1 and 90-49-1 in the Atlantic 10.
