NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – A record 3,849 student-athletes have been named to the 2020-21 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, recognizing student-athletes in the conference for their excellence in the classroom for the academic year, the conference announced on Monday. The University of Massachusetts led all A-10 institutions with 333 honorees, followed by George Mason with 333 and Fordham with 319.
To be selected to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must hold a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average. The 2020-21 class has 359 student-athletes that maintained a 4.0 GPA for the entire year and 2,672 student-athletes with a 3.5 or better. Women made up 63.16% of the honorees, while 36.71% were male student-athletes.
The class is made up of 17.9% (688 total honorees) freshmen, 25.4% (978 total) sophomores, 24.0% (922 total) juniors and 27.5% (1,058 total) seniors. There were 203 graduate students honored, comprising 5.2% of the class.
Women's track & field/cross country had 463 student-athletes honored, more than any other league-sponsored sport. Men's track & field/cross country had the second most with 383, and women's soccer was third with 351. Baseball (331) and women's lacrosse (301) round out the top five.
The average of 275 honorees per schools also set an A-10 record, a testament to the hard work and dedication of the league's student-athletes, given the academic challenges presented by the COVID-19 virus and the move to virtual learning.
