May 25, 2021 | Men's Track & Field
The Lexington, Massachusetts native will race on Wednesday evening in Jacksonville, Florida
AMHERST, Mass. -Â Sophomore Lucas Honohan will race in the first round of the 400 meter dash at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Wednesday, May 26, at 7:25 p.m. at Jax Track at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. The Lexington, Massachusetts, native will be running in heat four of six and the top three from each heat plus the next six fastest times will advance to the quarterfinals on Friday, May 28, at 7:55 p.m.
Â
To reach the NCAA East Preliminary Championships, Honohan took nearly a second off his PR, running 47.03 to silver in 400 meter dash at the Atlantic 10 Championships on May 2. The time was the first new entry into UMass' top five in the event since 2005 and took down Marc Sylvander's 21-year-old record of 47.30.
Â
Honohan is the first Minuteman to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary or Regional in a track event since Daniel Barry (1,500m) and Sean Duncan (3,000m steeplechase) in 2011 and first UMass sprinter to reach NCAA postseason competition since Kwesi Frimpong-Boateng ran the 100 meter dash at the NCAA East Regional Championships in 2003.Â
Â
Honohan also picked up a silver medal in 400 meter dash at the New England Championships and helped UMass earn a silver medal in the 4x100 meter relay at the meet.
