UMass Men’s Track & Field Collects Pair Of Medals In 400m On Day Two Of A-10 Championships

Honohan breaks a 21-year-old school record to earn silver, Stoddard takes bronze.

FAIRFAX, Va. – University of Massachusetts men's track and field collected a pair of medals in 400 meter dash to highlight the action on day two at the Atlantic 10 Championships at George Mason Stadium. The Minutemen finished sixth of 12 in the team scoring with 62 points, while Rhode Island earned the A-10 title with 184 points.
 
Junior Lucas Honohan took nearly a second off his PR, running 47.03 to silver in 400 meter dash. The time was the first new entry into UMass' top five in the event since 2005 and took down Marc Sylvander's 21-year-old record of 47.30. Junior Colin Stoddard followed in third to earn bronze with a time of 47.92 seconds.
 
Senior Jordan Howard finished just off the podium in 100 meter dash, clocking in at 10.67 seconds, improving upon his No. 5 all-time UMass mark, good for fourth in the meet.
 
Matthew Tarantino placed fourth in decathlon with a score of 5,658. On the final day of competition, Tarantino was third in pole vault (12'4", 551 points) and fifth in 110 meter hurdles (16.46, 682 points), discus (100', 474 points), javelin (131'2", 442 points) and 1,500m (5:23.19, 434 point).
 
Coston O'Brien scored in shot put, finishing seventh with a toss of 52 feet, 0.5 inches.
 
All three UMass relays finished in the scoring with the team's 4x400 taking fifth (3:22.37), the 4x100 placing sixth (42.03) and the 4x800 coming in seventh (7:54.50).
