Enrique Martinez earns bronze in hammer, Jordan Howard advances to finals in two events.
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – University of Massachusetts men's track and field saw senior Enrique Martinez capture a bronze medal in hammer throw and Jordan Howard advance to finals in two events on the track on day one of the New England Championships at Veterans Stadium on the campus of Central Connecticut.
Martinez threw 179 feet for third in hammer, the lone scorer for the Minutemen on Friday. On the track, UMass two individuals onto finals in three events. Howard posted the top time in the 100 meter prelims at 10.67 seconds to improve his No. 5 all-time mark in the UMass record book and ran 21.79 to third in 200 meter dash prelims to earn a spot in Saturday's race.
Junior Lucas Honohan clocked in at 49.34 seconds in 400 meter dash, advancing out of trials with a fifth-place finish.
Action resumes on Saturday, May 15, at 10 a.m. with decathlon 110 meter hurdles.
