Morrow Earns Roster Spot With Team USA For IIHF World Junior Championship

The U.S. will open tournament action with a preliminary matchup vs. Slovakia on Dec. 26 at 9:30 p.m. ET on NHL Network.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey freshman defenseman Scott Morrow has been named to the U.S. National Junior Team roster for the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship, which will be held in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta from December 26, 2021 to January 5, 2022. Morrow is one of 25 individuals to earn a roster spot with Team USA and is among 20 players on the squad currently playing college hockey.

Morrow, a native of Darien, Connecticut, is second for the Minutemen in scoring with 15 points through 15 games on six goals and nine assists, with two game winners and two power-play goals. The 2021 second round draft pick (40th overall) of the Carolina Hurricanes ended first half action tied for third in the nation in defensemen points per-game (1.00), leading all rookie defensemen in that category. He is seventh nationally among rookies overall in points per-game.
 
Team USA will face Slovakia in its first preliminary matchup Dec. 26 at WP Centrium with opening faceoff set for 7:30 p.m. local time/9:30 p.m. ET. In its 14th year televising the tournament, NHL Network will provide live game telecasts of all U.S. games.
 
Massachusetts hockey has been represented well at World Juniors during Greg Carvel's tenure at UMass with Minutemen earning roster spots at four of the past IIHF World Junior Championships. Zac Jones made the U.S. squad in 2020, goaltender Filip Lindberg earned a Gold medal at the 2019 tournament with Finland and Cale Makar won Gold with Canada at the 2018 World Junior Championship. Other past WJC participants from UMass include William Lagesson (2016, Sweden) and Stephen Werner (2004, USA). Werner was a Gold medal winner, as well. Director of Equipment Operations Josh Penn earned a Bronze medal on staff with Team USA in 2018.
